2 down, too many to go…

Finished quilting the flower quilt and the yellow baby quilt, got the blue triangles half loaded into the machine. Now if only if only I had the energy to finish. There is another top that is done so I might as well quilt it while I’m at it, just one less to do later.

The saga continues…

with Star Wars 4, 5, & 6.
Quilting is coming along nicely. I just wish I could hold onto the handles for a longer period of time. I am only getting half way across the quilt before I have to let go because my hand is cramping up. I need to seriously start saving for a stitch regulator. Oh, well… just another thing to add to the never ending wish list.
Since there is a lot of pink in this quilt I am making it entirely girly by quilting flowers in each of the squares. I like to do the quilting part fast but charity quilts are a good way to learn new techniques without it mattering a great deal what the finished product looks like.

These flowers are something I saw in a quilting video somewhere and liked the way they look. They are very easy to do, or would be if the thread didn’t keep breaking. The top is made from old drapery samples which might have something to do with that, either that or the crappy thread my mother brought me. Anyway, nearly done.

Enter the Wookies…

Today’s lack of sewing is brought to you by Star Wars 1, 2 & 3. No sewing happened today but I did get quilt #1 loaded into the frame. I know, sort of, how I want to quilt it, now I just need the energy to get it done.
Got lots of little blue confetti bits cut last night at scrap nite. I wish my little machine was in working order, I would be working on them today. Instead I am crocheting on the latest (navy/multi) project for killing time while I veg with Star Wars.

scrapcraft nite

Scrap-craft nite went well tonite. I got everything cut that I brought with me by 8:30. Tonight I brought the blues to cut for my nephew’s wedding quilt. 12 blocks of football team and 12 blocks of blue confetti. I was going to make wonky stars for the alt blocks but they aren’t really the star type people. Also, I could not find that exact color of blue anywhere, so… They will be getting a quilt with a dozen colors of blue, like blue confetti. It should be fun. I need to get a suitcase for my sewing machine so I can take it to the all day crafting coming up in the next few months. It’s too heavy to carry but if it has wheels… the possibilities are endless.
Finished top number 4 in the PhD challenge today. Tomorrow I start quilting the first. It is a double 4-patch that I am going to try matching the quilting to the design instead of just swirly/loopy all over. I have a book on quilting without marking that I think should be helpful. I’m just afraid that I will get impatient to get it done and will get sloppy on the last ones in a hurry to finish. It has a pieced back with the leftover blocks in a row. I’ve never done this before so we’ll have to see how it looks. It is a charity quilt, but I still want it to look nice.

human?

Finally! I am feeling somewhat human again and have managed to pry myself off the couch where I have been glued for the last 4 days. I really wish that drugs could be made without side effects. It would make life so much easier. Now lets just hope I can make it through a day at work.
Sewing time this week – 10 minutes, last nite. Hopefully I can add to that today. I really want to finish another 2 tops so I can start quilting. The double 4-patch is ready to go in the frame but I am going to make a pieced backing, something I never do. There were several blocks left over so I am going to make a row of them in the middle. That way I can use up some of the pieces of muslin that aren’t quite big enough for anything else.

This morning’s quilting was brought to you by Janet Evanovich’s Sizzling Sixteen and this afternoon by Jude Deveraux’s Scarlet Nights.
I seem to have gotten very little done for the amount of time I spent sewing. The new iron works well but having a retractable cord is a little weird. Finished and pressed 2 tops, the double 4-patch and wonky 9-patch. Hopefully I will finish the 2 triangle tops tomorrow so I can start quilting. In the rearranging I lost the yellow flannel I was going to use for the 9-patch so I think I will use the blue penguins instead.
I found another box of started quilt parts in the basement when looking for the pump for the balance ball. They were at the bottom of a box with tail-less sock monkeys… who knows who they were for.
